I still have a torquoise blue stand mixer that we use every year when we make Christmas cookies. I could go out and spend several hundreds of dollars to get a brand spankin’ new Kitchen Aid but the old MixMaster is still kickin’ and does the job.

A skyline whisk circ 1938 which still in good condition though it’s scaracent now and hidden away for posterity. A set of silver teaspoons that were given as an engagement present to my Mother by Walkers the Jewellers on her engagement to my Dad in 1936.

I still have a handkerchief holder that I won for first place in the 100 yards at the White City stadium in the 1950’s. The only thing from my Helicon days of athletics…the days before the professional Athlete.

Oh I could go on and on about the things tucked away in cupboards waiting for me to pop my clogs so the kids can relegate them to room 101.

I have started sending some of these things to car boots or the charity shops…though I’m not sure whether they appreciate what they’ve been given. LOL

The enamelled roasting tin was finally "retired" last year after 37 years of faithful service. It was the last survivor.

A traditional gift that is still given with Cherokees is the wedding vase. It is made from pottery and burned. It is supposed to be broken by the newlyweds though most keep it as a gift.

I’m still using some of our gifts (we’ve been married just over 27 years):

The large serving platter, metal on the bottom, ceramic on top. It doesn’t match any other plate I have, but it is sturdy and will hold a 25 pound turkey.

I still display the framed, decorated, wedding invitation a friend did for us.

I still use the set of 5 pots and pans we recieved as a wedding gift.

Nearly all the linens we recieved have been replaced, they were used and so wore out. I do still have one set of 8 cloth napkins. I also have 2 tablecloths that have been handed down, I’m the 3rd generation to use them.

I still have the salad servers given to me as a wedding gift in 1967. I also use a fish slice and slotted spoon that I bought for my bottom drawer in 1963 Unfortunately I haven’t kept the husband, he was surplus to requirements.

I still use my old-fashioned orange or lemon juicer that I was given when I was a newlywed. It’s a wide glass dish with a small sturdy handle, has a raised grooved "hump" in the middle. You get the orange or lemon in half then force it down and twist to squeeze all the juice out of it. Juice collects in the dish part. Works great for making fresh squeezed orange juice or getting fresh lemon juice to make lemonade.

I know that it’s very old. My grandmother had it in her kitchen cabinet and she had let me use it at her house when I was growing up.

I still use the electric alarm clock given to me for my first wedding in 1969, and it’s brilliant and still goes well. My bedroom wouldn’t be the same without this old thing next to the bed!!

I still use the bone handled carving set that my grandparents had for their wedding in 1916!!

Also the roller towels have been replaced several times by ones I have made!!! They are so useful and handy.

I have a lovely set of Noritake china that has filled at least four different china cabinets since my first marriage in 1966. It has never had a morsel of food served on it. I always thought it was just too much trouble to get it out when I had perfectly good dishes to use that were stacked in the kitchen cabinets.

I have a "Moss Rose" tea and coffee set my Mom gave me when I married..she had it for some time and then passed it along to me…my little girl and I used to play "tea party" with it.
I have all the Revere Ware pots and pans I started out with when I married in 1978…my folks gave them to us as a wedding gift.
Several quilts made at quilting bees from flour sacks by my husbands aunts, grandmother and Mom..given to us when we married…still in great condition.
We bought the house my husband grew up in…we redid the kitchen but when it came to taking out the sink my husband couldn’t do it…too many memories of his mom standing there washing dishes…it was one of the old Jamestown metal cabinets. I wasn’t in "love" with it…I had purchased stainless appliances and it didn’t really fit. We came to a compromise and stripped the cabinet down to the bare metal and had the sink refinished..turned out really cool and is an interesting piece. Stripping the paint off was mortal hell.
The ironing board my Grandmother gave me when we first married..a little rickety, but sentimental..I’ll keep using it.
Ah..and last but not least..the negligee from my honeymoon…still in mint condition…and I put it on every now and then for old times sake…almost always on our wedding anniversary…I usually put my wedding dress on for a few moments too.
